Annual fair will showcase health

A variety of organizations related to health needs will present health information as well as employment and volunteer opportunities at Eastern’s annual Health Fair.

“We’ve attracted over 55 organizations ranging from student groups, Recognized Student Organizations, on-campus departments and organizations, local community service organizations as well as a few state and national groups,” said Eric Davidson, assistant director of health services.

Davidson said the groups do many things including providing factual information on a variety of services offered, while others involve fairgoers directly.

“Some (organizations) have interactive activities for participants to engage in such as active games and quizzes. Others have physical health assessments and screenings,” Davidson said.

Plenty of nutrition, mentoring, substance abuse, sexual health and stress management information will be available at the fair, Davidson said.

“The event has been coordinated and planned by a student committee which has been meeting since late September,” Davidson said.

The annual fair has been at Eastern since 1997, when Health Services provided services for the event, Davidson said.

Boxa is sponsoring the event and will provide free food during the middle of the day, Davidson said. Jitters and Bliss will also provide herbal teas.

The Health Fair will be held free of admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today in the Student Recreation Center.
