Marijuana possession now a city ordinance violation

With no complaints from the public, an ordinance making possession of 2.5 grams of marijuana or less a city violation is now in effect.

The ordinance passed at Tuesday night’s city council meeting by a vote of four to one, with council member Marge Knoop voting against it.

The ordinance states if a person is caught with 2.5 grams of marijuana or less, the case can be handled by the city attorney and the individual will pay a $250 fine.

Furthermore, the ordinance is designed to take some of the load off the state’s attorney’s office, which used to prosecute all marijuana cases, and let them focus on high-profile cases.
