The Road Scholar Tour, sponsored by Chrysler, came to Eastern to teach students about drunken driving awareness. Students were given the opportunity to choose from a collection of Jeeps, Dodges and Chryslers and test drive them through the extreme road course, which consisted of sharp turns, quick stops, off-road simulation and an eight-foot-high bridge.

The event was put on by University Health Services Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and was located behind O’Brien Stadium.

Kim Rose, director of the Road Scholar Tour, explained that this event was meant to spread safety, wellness, and alcohol awareness to college campuses by giving the students a hands-on feel, while also providing fun and games.

“My favorite part was test driving all the cars. It was a lot fun,” junior health education major Teri LaRoche said .

Anyone who attended was required to register before they were allowed to test drive the cars. They also had to provide a valid driver’s license.

In addition, their names were added to a raffle for prizes such as a trip to the 2003 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah and an Infinity home theater speaker system.

Aside from the driving course, the event included activities such as high-tech video games, rock climbing, a mechanical bull ride and a music and games tent.

Rose said the event had only last minute planning which is why the turnout was not as big as expected, but nonetheless it was still a success.
