BACCHUS hosts scavenger hunt on quad

Don’t be alarmed to see students wondering and checking off items on a list tonight.

BACCHUS will host a scavenger hunt at 7 p.m. Participants will meet at the South Quad and travel on and off campus searching for the desired objects.

Eric Davidson, assistant director of health services, said the hunt is put on for several reasons. The primary reason is to provide an activity for students during orientation week that is fun and exciting.

Second, the scavenger hunt gives students the opportunity to meet different people and become familiar with campus and its surrounding area, for example the businesses on Lincoln Avenue.

BACCHUS, a peer education network which teaches positive decision-making and a healthy collegiate lifestyle, also uses this activity as an opportunity to recruit people.

The scavenger hunt gives students a chance to be creative, Davidson said.

Most of the objects participants have to find aren’t located in a residence hall, for example. Students will have to travel into the community and come up with their own strategies of “hunting” their way to victory.

Last year, about 30 people were in attendance at the event, Davidson said.

Prizes will be given out, but Davidson didn’t give any hints as to the contents of this year’s scavenger hunt.
