Bomb threat evacuates library

A bomb threat Monday forced students and library employees to evacuate Booth Library.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. Alan Lanham, dean of Library Services, announced Booth was being evacuated over the building’s intercom system, said Sue Eggers, circulation desk worker.

Workers and students were waiting in front of the north entrance when Sgt. Elam, University Police, directed everyone back to in front of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.

Elam said the UPD received the threat but with no time frame attached.

Eggers said Monday’s evacuation was her second experience with a bomb threat. Eggers was working at McAffee Gym earlier in the year when a threat on the building was made.

“It inconveniences the patrons more than anything,” she said. “In today’s society you just can’t be too careful. I think it’s a sick joke.”

Tracy Bjekich, a family and consumer sciences major and library worker, agreed with Eggers, saying she believes Monday’s threat was a joke.

“I’ve gone through two at Carman Hall,” she said. “To me it just seems like another threat – somebody bored.”
