Former faculty member buffington returns to discuss his art exhibit

Rod Buffington, an Eastern graduate and former faculty member, will present an artist’s lecture on Wednesday.

The lecture to discuss his exhibition, “Double Vision: Companions and Choices”, will take place at 7 p.m. in the Tarble Arts Center.

Kit Morice, curator of education for the Tarble Arts Center, said that Buffington’s presentation will most likely be a slide presentation, depicting his work along with other quilt artists.

“He will detail the evolution of the exhibit from its conception to the final piece,” Morice said, adding that she is looking forward to the exhibition and expects a good turnout.

“Double Vision: Companions and Choices” features Buffington’s quilt-like paintings, along with 18 similar quilts.

“The exhibit’s pairing of the work of great quilters with Buffington is an amazing concept,” Morice said.

Buffington is from Springfield, Ill. He also holds a bachelor of arts, a master of arts and an EDS from Eastern, as well as being a member of the faculty for 14 years.

He served as director to the Paul T. Sargent Gallery, Eastern’s art center before Tarble, and the Springfield Art Association.

Buffington’s work has been displayed in the Illinois State Museum, the Illinois Artisan’s Shop and Joy Horwich Gallery, the National Quilt Museum and the International Quilt Festival.

The lecture is free of charge and open to the public.

After Buffington’s exhibit leaves the Tarble Arts Center, “Double Vision: Companions and Choices” will go over seas to Spain.
