Administrator search starts for second time

The search committee for an associate vice president for academic affairs for technology met last Friday for the first time since the reopening of the search.

Committee chair James Tidwell, journalism professor, will begin sending letters to applicants from the previous search and post electronic ads on Wednesday. The search Web site is again up and running.

“I’m sure we’ll start getting applications immediately,” Tidwell said Tuesday.

A position announcement will appear in the Chronicle of Higher Education starting Feb. 1, Tidwell said.

The committee will start reviewing the applications the third week of February and hope to begin campus interviews by April.

Blair Lord, vice president for academic affairs, announced the reopening of the search early in December when the initial search effort couldn’t produce a good match for Eastern.

The associate vice president for academic affairs for technology will run the Center for Academic Technology Support, which serves as a resource for teachers trying to incorporate technology into their curriculum.

The previous search began in April of 2001 and was to end in December. Lord said this second attempt falls at a better season for hiring for these specific types of positions and could produce better results.
