Detectives wanted to solve murder

Students will help solve a pretend murder at the Murder Mystery Dinner Theater this weekend.

The show, sponsored by the University Board, will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Grand Ballroom of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union, and food will be served throughout the show.

“The murder mystery is like a play, but it also has audience interaction,” Jessica Bishop, UB special events coordinator, said.

She said audience members are given a crime report prior to the show and are encouraged to ask questions throughout the show in an attempt to solve the mystery.

The plot of the play surrounds the death of 95-year-old millionaire Dolly Witherspoon, who was valued in excess of $80 million, Bishop said.

Witherspoon’s lawyer, who was holding the money and the knowledge of who would receive Witherspoon’s estate, is murdered before being able to distribute the money and inform the person granted the estate, Bishop said.

The audience will have to attempt to figure out the murderer’s identity and motive, she said.

Directly after the play, a deliberation period will take place where the audience can ask questions to the suspects in hopes of discovering who is the killer, Bishop said.

Salad, chicken, potatoes, green beans, rolls, apple pie and drinks will be served to the audience in courses throughout the show, she said.

Tickets are available in the Student Life Office at $2 for students with a Panther Card ID and $6 for the general public.

People who purchase tickets before 4:30 p.m. Friday will be given a 50 cent discount.
