Online calender will ist each week’s activities

A complete list of activities taking place around campus, including dates and times, can be found online courtesy of the Guide, an online calender for recognized student organizations and other organizations to promote their events for free.

Cynthia Nichols, director of the office of civil rights and diversity, thought up the idea because several activities and events take place on campus each week. “Many of these activities are cultural and civic topics that are interesting to college students,” Nichols said.

Nichols said so many groups on campus offer weekly activities and so many groups meet each week that it may be difficult for students to keep track of activities.

The Guide is one more tool students can use to find out what is going on.

Christy Blew, assistant to the director of the Office of Civil Rights and Diversity, said three reasons exist for having the Guide:

The Guide gives organizations a place to advertise or publicize events.

Having the events and activities posted online will hopefully increase attendance at these events.

The Guide will help organizations to avoid scheduling conflicts.

“The Guide is also a way to move ahead with media and technology,” Blew said.

If RSOs or any other organizations wish to advertise or publicize their events and activities online, they can call the Civil Rights office at 5020 or e-mail the Guide at [email protected] or [email protected]. Posting on the Guide is free.

The Guide was created by employees in the Civil Rights and Diversity Office, and the Web site, www.eiu.edu/~theguide, has been up since September.
