RHA ready to discuss constitution change

The Residence Hall Association will talk about potential constitution changes at 5 p.m. today at Ford Hall.

One change would give National Residence Hall Honorary one vote instead of the current two votes it currently gets. The one vote would be for the president, not the president and the liaison.

“At the moment, the constitution is contradictory. We are trying to make sure it’s not contradictory,” Nachel Glynn, vice president of finance, said.

Members also will talk about rewording part of the constitution.

A discussion on whether to separate Greek Court into female/male housing or to put them together, as is done with University Court and University Apartments, will take place.

“The proposal is to put them together, so it would be encompassed as one complete not divided,” Amy Grammer, president of RHA, said.

Other changes will be made to the election, finance and meeting sections of the constitution. The proposal for the finance section is to have an executive board member present when students or any RHA member wants to look at the books.

RHA will take five nominations for NRHH. Also, presidential nominations will start on Oct. 25, and elections will be held on Nov. 8. Grammer will graduate at the end of this semester.

“The remainder of the semester will be a transition period from me to the other person, which is why we are holding it (elections) so early,” Grammer said.

Also, coming fundraisers will be brought up by the Helping Hands Committee. Grammer said one fundraiser is to raise money through housing for Habitat for Humanity for the House that EIU Built.

Last year, RHA raised money for the Haiti Connection.
