Board of Trustees forms a presidential search committee

The Presidential Search Advisory Committee was formed at a Thursday afternoon meeting of the four members of the Board of Trustees that had already been appointed to the search committee.

Seven new members were selected to serve on the committee Thursday, a press release said.

Three of those seven will represent the university’s faculty on the committee, which is charged with coordinating the search for Eastern’s next president.

Faculty Senate Chair Bud Fischer, biological sciences professor, was chosen, along with fellow senate member Luis Clay Mendez, foreign languages professor, and Bill Addison, psychology department chair.

The remaining four members will represent different groups.

Doug Sloat, a carpenter, will represent Eastern’s staff.

Jone Zieren, financial aid director, will serve as the administration’s representative.

Sylvia Nichols of Edwardsville has agreed to represent Eastern’s Alumni Association and Katie Cox, last year’s student body president, will serve as the committee’s student representative.

The seven chosen at Thursday’s meeting will serve with the four Board of Trustees representatives that were selected at a BOT retreat last month.

BOT member Robert Manion chairs the committee, and fellow BOT members Roger Dettro, Julie Nimmons and student BOT representative Daryl Jones are committee members.

The newly formed committee will meet at 5 p.m. Monday in the 1895 Room of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.

Manion had previously said he anticipates the search will take about six months, with a new president being announced in April.
