Celebration kick-off event to be held today

Non-alcoholic margaritas and Hawaiian leis will be offered for free to all students today in the South Quad in a “Spring into Celebration” event.

“Spring into Celebration,” which will be held from noon to 2 p.m., is an effort to promote Eastern’s annual spring arts festival “Celebration: A Festival of the Arts,” said Christine Demma, an assistant organizer of the event.

This year, the art festival will present an event called Bizarre Bazaar.

“Bizarre Bazaar is a campus-wide student flea market where students can buy, sell, trade and barter possessions,” Demma said.

The bazaar will take place April 27 in the Library Quad.

Demma said students will hand out informational pamphlets at “Spring into Celebration” that promote the art festival and Bizarre Bazaar. They also will answer any questions regarding the events.

The main reason why “Spring into Celebration” was organized was to promote the upcoming events, said Dan Crews, director of Publicity and Development.

He said a margarita machine will be set up for students to serve themselves.

Demma said this celebration took four weeks for faculty,

staff and students to plan and organize.

“A lot of hard work has been put into this event,” she said. “We hope to have a lot of students come out for the event.”
