Speaker offering dating help

David Coleman’s workshop Creative Dating:The Cure for the Common Relationship may be just the solution for those students who are looking to spice up their relationships.

The workshop begins tonight at 7 in the Grand Ballroom of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.

Lynn Stahlhut, University Board lectures coordinator, said students will discover from the workshop their options and tendencies regarding dating and relationships, what enhances their relationships and a new feeling of confidence in themselves and their abilities.

Coleman, a three-time winner of The Campus Lecture Program of the Year, has been traveling around to over 1500 schools nationwide talking to students about “Creative Dating.”

He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology in 1983 and his Master of Arts Degree in College Student Personnel Administration in 1985, both from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

His recent book release, “Date Smart! How to Stop Revolving and Start Evolving in Relationships,” has been ranked in the top 10 percent of all books selling on Amazon.com since its release in February of 2000.

Stahlhut said Coleman will cover a wide range of topics including what impresses men and women, basic differences between men and women, the five stages of a relationship, long distance relationships and Rohypnol (the “Date Rape Drug”), just to name a few.

Coleman will also discuss how to plan creative low budget dates, how to tell if someone is interested, five characteristics of a healthy relationship and breaking up and rejection lines along with pick-up lines.

“Creative Dating” is a workshop that promotes interaction among audience members, Stahlhut said. Students will be able to meet others, gain strategies to improve their social lives, feel more confident in their chances of having ideal social lives and realize that they are not alone in the dating pool.

After the workshop, Stahlhut said students will have a different perspective on dating and relationships and, instead of just listening to someone speak as in other lectures, students will have a chance to actively participate in the workshop and really take something away from it.
