Dating Workshop Tonight

It’s a common experience among American college students. Everyday, young couples everywhere either get together or break up. Others are trying to find someone to complete their lives or fulfill their needs.

This experience is commonly known as dating. Students looking for answers to the puzzling questions posed by dating can attend a workshop sponsored by Eastern’s Counseling Center.

The counseling center will present “Playing the Game,” a workshop that can help students solve the problems of dating tonight at 7:30. The workshop will be held in the Charleston/ Mattoon Room of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union. The speakers are counseling center staff members David Onestak, Karola Alford and Linda Anderson.

According to Alford, associate professor of counseling center operations, the workshop will focus on the choices people make in dating. There will be an emphasis on defining the characteristics of good and bad relationships, Alford said.

The workshop, which he said will probably last about an hour, will be interactive and is intended to help participants prevent dating disasters. Also to be discussed are the rewards or consequences of good or bad choices in dating.

Alford said that the counseling center deals with a large number of students who are experiencing relationship problems.

She said that she hopes the workshop will help prevent students from making bad choices in regards to the people they date. Alford also said that the workshop should be fun as well as informational.
