Laser Tag offered at Campus Life Nite

The gray, inflatable war room looked oddly out of place in the middle of the Grand Ballroom. Triumphant yells and shrieks of dismay could be occasionally heard over the constant barrage of electronic blips and bleeps. Welcome to the exciting world of Laser Tag.

Although Lanina Ysalgue, a physical education major, and her boyfriend, Anthony Long, are used to paint balling and playing Laser Tag in larger facilities, they still enjoyed themselves.

“I had fun,” Ysalgue said. “It was a break from the ordinary.”

Laser Tag was one of many options for students at the second annual Campus Life Nite.

“We planned for a variety of events,” said Art Davis, vice president of student affairs. “It should be a good break from studying for midterms.”

In the University Ballroom, students could win prizes by playing ring toss or knocking down milk bottles at the RSO Carnival.

In between activities, students lined up at the concession stand for free cupcakes, cookies and nachos.

“This is the perfect week for Campus Life Nite,” Davis said. “It’s like an appetizer for spring break.”

Two of the more popular attractions were bingo and video buttons. Students could play bingo and win prizes ranging from phone cards to a CD player. For video buttons, students posed by themselves or with friends, and then their images were mounted on buttons.

For those who just wanted to sit down and relax, there was live entertainment. Comedian Dwight Nelson, singer Al Dertz and the band “Eleventh and Cleveland” performed throughout the evening in the University Ballroom.

Campus Life Nite was sponsored by Student Government and the Apportionment Board.

“I’d really like to thank the Apportionment Board for financing Campus Life Nite,” Davis said. “Without AB, none of this would have been possible.”
