Today is the last day to register to vote

Today is the last day to register to vote in the April 3 consolidated election.

Students can register to vote at the County Clerk’s Office, 511 Jackson Ave; the Charleston Public Library, 712 Sixth St.; and the driver’s license facility, 1010 E St., said County Clerk Betty Coffrin.

To register to vote, students need to be a U.S. citizen; 18 years of age on or before April 3, 2001; a resident in this precinct for 30 days before April 3, 2001; and must be able to show two forms of identification.

On the ballot for the April 3 election will be mayor, four seats on City Council, parks and recreation department positions and about half of the school board positions.

Voter registration and turnout is not usually as high during the mayoral campaign as the presidential campaign, Coffrin said.

Anyone who needs transportation to a place of registration can call the County Clerk’s office at 348-0501 to make arrangements.
