Housing to expand rooms

With the increasing popularity of double deluxe rooms in residence halls, Eastern has decided to transform several rooms on Thomas and Lawson Hall’s top floors into the specialty suites, said Kelly Miller, assistant director for student housing.

Miller said workers will convert half of the rooms in Thomas Hall’s highest floor before repeating the process in Lawson Hall in the fall.

“We started (converting regular rooms) last year in Andrews Hall,” she said. “We are doing half of the rooms (on the floor) just like in Andrews. Everyone liked them. We are going to continue this.”

The number of people requesting double deluxe rooms continues to grow, Miller said.

“They are very popular,” she said.

The rooms in these residence halls, located in the south quad, require that the built in furniture be removed to meet the accommodations a double deluxe room provides, Miller said.

“All bolsters and built in furniture will be removed,” she said. “We will redo the floors, and install new lighting and furniture (in the rooms).”

Miller said the deluxe rooms are an ideal set-up for people who want a roommate, but desire an extended amount of space.

“They are very nice,” she said.

This cost for a double deluxe room is an extra $330 per semester.
