Inagural RSO council meeting set for tonight

The first Recognized Student Organization council meeting will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in the University Ballroom of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.

Joe Crocker, vice president for public affairs, said that all 132 RSOs are invited to attend the inaugural meeting. Several members of the Student Senate will also attend, Crocker said.

“I hope there’s a good turnout,” Crocker said.

Tonight’s council will allow the RSOs to get to know each other, and to talk about recent and upcoming university issues and events, Crocker said.

The Student Senate created the council earlier this month to give RSOs and senate members the chance to talk to each other, said senate member Marty Ruhaak.

“Every RSO can come hear what we have to say, and we can hear what they have to say,” Ruhaak said.

Under the senate’s old system, each senate member represented one RSO. Since there are only 30 senate members, Ruhaak said the old system did not do enough to represent all the RSOs.
