Greeks bring home awards

Eastern’s Mid-American Greek Council Association pulled in several awards recently in the annual Panhellenic and Interfraternity Councils conference .

Held at the O’Hare Hilton Hotel in Chicago, the conference had over 200 universities participating, said Bob Dudolski, assistant director of Greek affairs.

Delegates who are voted on by other members of their individual council made up the the participants of the conference, Dudolski said.

He said they attend the conference to work with others, build leadership skills and observe other delegates in attendance.

Along with four individual awards won by the men and seven individual awards by the women at the conference, Eastern’s councils won two awards, Dudolski said.

“It was very impressive to win the awards,” he said.

Eastern’s Panhellenic council won the Sutherland Award for its service work and diversity forum held previously while the Interfraternity Council received the Jellison Award for its programs including Greek Week and recruitment efforts.

“It (was) a great honor (to receive those awards),” Dudolski said. “The last time Eastern won the Sutherland Award was in 1999.”

He said there were eight different categories the councils had to comply with in order to qualify as a finalist for each award.

The categories consisted of academic achievement, community service, risk management, council management, self-government, membership education and leadership, and membership recruitment and public relations, Dudolski said.

Eastern’s councils earned more points than its division two opponents, Southwest Missouri State University and Bradley University, he said.
