Editor’s Note: Elections are running from Monday through Tuesday, not Tuesday through Wednesday.

The EIU Student Government Association is holding a special election for two executive positions left unfilled by its general election, which was held March 30-31.
Student vice president of academic affairs and student trustee were the two positions left vacant following the general election.
These two positions, along with elected senator, will be up for voting between Monday at 8 a.m. and Tuesday at 11:59 p.m.
Senator Shiloh Frederick is running unopposed for VPAA. Outside of Student Government, he is currently treasurer of the EIU Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society.
Frederick said a priority for him is to stop delays in the credit transfer system, which is something he has dealt with as an international student.
“Although my credits from Sir Arthur Lewis Community College were eventually approved, the delay meant that I enrolled in courses during my first semester that I had already completed,” Frederick said.
To help, Frederick said he wants to work with academic advisors and EIU administration to understand the problem.
“From there, I would advocate for clearer timelines, improved communication with incoming students and a more transparent process so students can track the status of their credit evaluations,” Frederick said. “I also want to explore ways to provide earlier guidance before course registration so students can make informed decisions and avoid unnecessary repetition.”
Another area of focus for Frederick is the improvement of student-to-faculty communication to help students who are facing academic challenges.
“Communication is not just about collecting concerns. It is about ensuring that those concerns are brought forward, discussed and followed up on,” Frederick said.
Frederick said he wants to promote academic resources more and give more representation to international students.

John Slater is running unopposed for student trustee. Previously, he served as senator and then as VPAA, a position he was elected for in spring 2025. Slater served as VPAA until his resignation in September.
Slater and two other members of Student Government announced their resignations in September after being notified that their GPAs did not meet the minimum requirement specified in the Student Body Constitution.
Slater said one of the reasons he is now running for student trustee is to “get to the bottom” of the issues the university is facing.
“EIU is in a tough spot right now. Everybody knows that; it’s no secret,” Slater said. “How can we change things to make sure that everything’s working?”
He said the student trustee should be loud because the position is a voice for the student body.
Slater is currently employed by The Daily Eastern News as a reporter and columnist.
After the first semester that someone is appointed to the Senate, the person must run as an elected senator each semester thereafter in order to stay on the Senate.

Claire Weber is running unopposed for elected senator.
Weber is currently the student body president, and she started as senator before being elected to vice president of student affairs in spring 2025.
In September, she was appointed to the role of SBP after several resignations.
She ran for executive vice president in the general election and lost to Sam Erwin.
Weber said she wants to focus more of her time on legislation rather than on constant events.
“The biggest thing is that I will have my voting power back, and I plan to ensure I use my vote in a way that truly represents the student body,” Weber said.
