Editor’s Note: This story is part of an Illinois’ 15th Congressional District candidates series.
Kyle Nudo is one of four candidates running in the Democratic primary in Illinois’ 15th Congressional District of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The other three candidates running in the Democratic primary are Jennifer Todd, Paul Davis and Randy Raley.
The primary election will be on March 17, and the general election will be on Nov. 3, according to Ballotpedia.
On the issues tab of Nudo’s website, there are six sections listed.
The first is titled “Keep Care Close to Home,” which states Nudo’s desire to prioritize the protection of rural hospitals, expanding telehealth access and healthcare as a human right.
“That means cutting through red tape and redirecting resources to local providers instead of bloated administrative systems with their eye on their profits instead of people,” the website says.
The next section is titled “Stand With Workers.” This section touches on Nudo’s union membership and its importance to him.
“He’ll stand shoulder-to-shoulder with unions, defend collective bargaining rights and push for policies that ensure a hard day’s work earns a fair day’s pay. He’ll fight to raise the minimum wage, protect pensions and close loopholes that let corporations exploit workers,” the website says.
According to the Collinsville Daily News, Nudo is a member of three unions: the Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, the Actors’ Equity Association and the American Guild of Variety Artists.
“Protect Family Farms” is another section listed on Nudo’s website.
“Family farms are the backbone of Illinois’ 15th District — feeding our nation, supporting our small towns and passing down values of honesty, hard work and care for the land. But more and more small farmers are being squeezed out by corporate monopolies, unfair markets and restrictive repair rules that keep them dependent on big agribusiness,” says the website.
According to the website, Nudo will prioritize farmers’ ability to repair their equipment, protect ownership of farmland, and fight price fixing and unfair patents.
In the section titled “Build It Here,” Nudo’s infrastructure goals are listed. He wants to create roads, bridges, broadband internet and clean energy by investing in local contractors and regional partnerships for job creation.
Nudo also prioritizes investment into community, including investment for job and business creation, according to the website.
“‘Build it Here’ means building pride, stability and opportunity in every county. Kyle’s vision is simple: our kids shouldn’t have to move away to find success — we can build it right here at home,” the website says.
Nudo said to the Collinsville Daily News that infrastructure is the first goal he has in office.
“I’ll make sure we restore our crumbling infrastructure and relight the engines of growth and job prosperity – and importantly, I will focus on breaking apart the monopoly control that’s destroyed American competition across our state,” he said to the Collinsville Daily News.
Along with that, Nudo wants to ensure education is affordable by expanding scholarships, junior college programs, apprenticeships and training in trades, according to the website.
Support for veterans is another issue listed by Nudo on his website. According to the section “Honor Veterans,” Nudo will prioritize the timeliness of healthcare, mental health services and benefits.
“To Kyle, honoring veterans isn’t a slogan — it’s a lifelong responsibility. The best way to thank those who served is to keep our word and make sure no veteran is left behind,” the website says.
The Daily Eastern News attempted to schedule an interview with Nudo but was unable to find a mutually available time prior to publication.
