
While most of Charleston’s events this week are scheduled for the weekend, the first full weekend of June offers something for all ages:
You Can’t Stop the Beat: Dance Life at 15! (Friday – Saturday)
At EIU at the Dounda Fine Arts Center in the Theatre, DanceLife Life is Motion presents “You Can’t Stop the Beat! DanceLife at 15,” showcasing 15 years of dance, on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The performance will feature current dancers, alumni and teachers. Tickets can be bought from Dounda. The Dounda Fine Arts Center is located at 1860 7th St.
2025 Races for all Paces (Saturday)
At O’Brien Field at EIU, Sarah Bush Lincoln will host the annual Races for all Paces event that benefits the SBL dental program on Saturday from 7:50 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a 10K run/walk, 5K run/walk, 1-mile fun run/walk, toddler trot and diaper dash. Alex Russell Memorial Fishing Derby (Saturday)
At Lake Charleston, there will be a free fishing derby for ages 5 to 15 in honor of Alex Russell on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Participants need to bring their own pole and bait. Lake Charleston is located at 17801 Lake Charleston Loop.
Saturday Story Series at Lincoln Log Cabin (Saturday)
At the Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site, the monthly children’s story series that happens every first Saturday of the month will happen this Saturday at 10 a.m. The free event, tailored for ages 5 to 10, will feature a reading of a historically themed children’s book, as well as activities and crafts. Registration can be found here. The Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site is located at 402 S Lincoln Hwy, Lerna, IL.
Farmers Market (Saturday)
At the Courthouse Square, there will be a farmers market on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. hosted by the Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce. The event will feature local vendors and live music. There will be a farmers’ market every Saturday until September 20. Starting today, one will be held every Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. until September 24. The Courthouse Square is located at 651 Jackson Ave.
Five Mile House Program (Sunday)
At the Historic Five Mile House, there will be a Five Mile House program on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. From 1 to 2:30 p.m., in the barn, there will be presentations on historical topics of local interest. Then from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., local and regional music groups will perform. Also, living history activities and demonstrations will be offered throughout the event.
