Flowers named to Freshman of the Year watch list

The redshirt freshman running back is the only player listed from the Big South-OVC.

Redshirt freshman running back MJ Flowers has been named to the Watch List for the Jerry Rice Football Championship Subdivison Freshman of the Year Award presented by FedEx Ground.

Flowers has been names Big South-Ohio Valley Conference Football Association Freshman of the Week for three consecutive weeks throughout the 2023 season.

Flowers is the only player from the Big South-OVC Conference that is on the Jerry Rice Award Watch List, and he is currently ranked fourth in rushing yards in the FCS with 409 yards.

“It’s an amazing honor,” Head Coach Chris Wilkerson said. “I know he’s worked really really hard while he’s been here. I’m excited for him. He’s a fine young man and he has a bright future as a football player.”

The Jerry Rice Award Watch List includes 22 top FCS freshman players, and it will be presented at the national awards banquet on Jan. 6 in Frisco, TX.
