The Health Education and Resource Center (HERC) hosted their stress management event.

It was held Friday in the Martin Luther King Jr. Union in the Effingham room at 5 p.m.

The presentation focused on both good and bad stress and how to manage it in different parts of their lives as students.

Cynthia Kmety, a mental health coordinator at the HERC, was the presenter.

She was able to give more insight on the purpose of this event.

“The purpose of the stress management presentation is to give tips on how to healthily handle stress,” Kmety said

Kmety also went on to talk about how stress is a part of our everyday lives and the need for people to get tips on how to cope with it.

“The presentation focuses on developing skills and strategies to help you manage your stress levels.” Kmety said. “We chatted about time management, self-care, mindfulness and much more.”

Mindfullness meditation examples were shown to those in attendance. The meditation consisted of focusing on the full body.

This meditation technique is one which helps with stress and to incorporate within someone’s daily routine like before bed, in between classes or even when they wake up in the morning.

Kmety also gave some insight on how students can manage their stress with only a month left in the semester and finals approaching.

With finals approaching, my advice for students is to organize and prepare ahead of time and don’t forget about self-care,” Kmety said.

They also advised students to utilize their resources that are being offered on campus.

Some of the resources offered on campus include: Health Education and Resource Center (HERC), Student Success, Career Services, TRIO, The Writing Center, and Counseling Clinic.

Kmety also hosts the nindfulness series which is a four-week program that meets for an hour once a week.
