BOT to meet in 2 special meetings Saturday, Monday

Eastern’s Board of Trustees will meet in two special virtual meetings on Saturday at 7:15 a.m. and on Monday at 1 p.m. The special meetings are to discuss Eastern employment matters. (Ashanti Thomas)

Eastern’s Board of Trustees will meet Saturday morning at 7:15 a.m. for a special virtual meeting with another planned for Monday at 1 p.m.

The agendas for both meetings only list a planned executive session to be called. 

The executive session is for a private session for employment matters.

Per the Illinois Open Meetings Act, in public meetings the Board is allowed to enter a private session for discussion. Discussion in a closed meeting which must be limited in scope to the listed exception, employment matters, authorizing the closed meeting.

In an executive session, the Board cannot take executive action or vote on any items.

Per the Open Meetings Act, the taking of final action at any closed meeting is prohibited.

Following the executive session, the Board meeting will be made public again for public comment, if any are planned ahead of the meeting, and adjournment.

For public comment, if there are not any planned public comments, the Board will likely go directly to adjournment.

Currently, only two special meetings are known, but more may be scheduled by the Board.
