The women and men of Eastern golf return to the links with many familiar faces as their fall seasons begin this week and next week.

The EIU women’s golf team returns four golfers from last year and has added three to the roster as they lost key players: Monique Peterson, Ryanne Jackson, and Jaeden Workman, who were seniors last season.

The three freshmen golfers added to the roster are Ava Boehm, Ashley Chen, and Lindsay Hastings.

On the other hand, the men’s golf team has all six golfers returning and they have two freshmen joining the roster. The new additions are Juan Pablo Hernandez and Trey Oswald.

The coach for the women and men is Mike Moncel, who has been with EIU since 1995, with the exception of the years of 1999-2003, making this his 19th year as the women’s coach and 23rd year as the men’s coach.

The EIU men’s golf team began their season Monday as they traveled to Jackson, Tenn., for the two-day UT Martin Grover Page Classic.

For this tournament, they sent Pierce Allord, Preston Smith, Ben Lanman, Trey Oswald, and Keegan Gowin.

As of Monday evening, EIU is in 15th place out of 16 as a team after the first two rounds with a 611 score on the 36 holes.

The team leader is Allord, who is tied for 38th as he is 2 over par in the individual category after the first two rounds. He also leads the team with 10 birdies on 36 holes.

Lanman leads the team with 1 eagle and 17 pars on 36 holes. Gowin also has an eagle on one hole.

The men will have three more tournaments that they will be traveling to until mid-October: the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational in Madison, Ill., the Cleveland State Tom Tonitimonia Invite in Westlake, Ohio, and the North Alabama TVA Community Credit Union Invite in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

The women’s team will travel to Clarksville, Tenn., for the Austin Peay F&M Bank Intercollegiate tournament Sept. 26 and 27 as they begin their fall season.

The women also have a total of four tournaments they will be traveling to during the fall season: the Southern Illinois Fall Invite in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the Evansville Braun Invitational in Evansville, Ind., and the Alabama A&M Fall Invite in Huntsville, Ala. These tournaments run until the end of October.
