The Eastern women’s soccer team traveled to Central Michigan Sunday afternoon where it ended up in a 1-1 tie that moved it to a 2-1-4 record. This tie marks the fourth one of the season, which is double the number of ties they had last season.

EIU is the only team in the Ohio Valley Conference with more than 2 ties on the season. Southern Indiana, Little Rock, Tennessee Tech, SIUE, and UT Martin currently all have 2 ties on the season. Southeast Missouri is the only team in the OVC with no ties.

The Panthers had a strong defensive and offensive showing Sunday against the Chippewas and kept pressure on both sides throughout the match.

EIU allowed only 4 total shots as they were able to put up 14 shots. Forward Serra Pizano was able to answer to CMU’s second half goal with 8 minutes remaining in the match. It was Pizano’s goal of the season.

Two of the key players came off the bench as the Panthers had a total of nine players come off the bench. Forward Michaela Danyo made the assist to Pizano for the late goal in the second half. Midfielder Cami Lummus put up two shots on CMU.

The players who started also had a good variety of stats for the match. Midfielder Jenna Little had four shots with one being on goal. Midfielder Cam Korhorn had two shots with one being on goal. Defender Sarah Hagg had one shot. Midfielder Ella Onstott had two shots on goal, Midfielder Kenzie Balcerak had one shot on goal.

The Panther’s offense and defense continues to improve each game and are a top contender in the OVC so far.

EIU has just one match remaining until they enter OVC play. They will host Western Illinois at home Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Lakeside Field. Western is currently 1-3-3, so it is sure to be a good matchup between the two team.
