City Council to pick delegates for Illinois Municipal League

Theo Edwards, Staff Writer

During the Charleston City Council meeting Tuesday there will be a vote on a resolution that will allow Mayor Brandon Combs to pick delegates for the 2021 Annual Conference of the Illinois Municipal League.

This will be held Sept. 23 to Sept. 25 in 2021 at the Chicago Hilton and Towers Hotel. As stated in the resolution this conference is “for the purpose of researching and learning new techniques/procedures applicable to municipal and/or local government operations for the benefit of the residents of the City of Charleston, Illinois.”

A Public Hearing will be conducted before the meeting at 6:15 p.m. to consider the annexation of certain property.

After this hearing, an ordinance will be voted upon during the meeting to approving petition from Diane E. Halsey, who is owner of the property, for the annexation of 1014 W. Hayes Avenue to the City of Charleston.

Two announcements will be made at the city council meeting, both about the appointment of two people by Combs.

The first is Judy Looby to a three-year term on the Carnegie Library Board of Trustees and the second is Steve Hutti to a three-year term on the Firefighters Pension Fund Board.

Following the action items, members of the public are given the opportunity to contact the council. On matters not on the agenda, no action will be taken, and the Council is not obligated to take any further action or to address the matter further. Public comment can be sent to [email protected] in person or by email.

Those interested in sending public comment should send emails to the city clerk by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, with the subject line: CC: 05/18/2021, so the city clerk knows it is for the meeting.

The next Charleston City Council meeting will be held on July 6.
