Eastern’s Student Senate will be listening to some proposed changes to the textbook rental services from the textbook rental advisory committee. They will be proposing 11 recommendations they have in mind at Wednesday’s meeting in the Arcola/Tuscola room of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union at 7 p.m.

Student body President Carson Gordon said the textbook rental advisory committee is going to talk to the Senate about the suggestions that they have, and the senators will ask questions to make sure they all understand what is taking place.

“The nice thing is if there are things we don’t understand, they’ll explain it to us and we can make sure we’re all on board and that the student body is on board with it,” Gordon said.

Gordon also will be meeting with the Lake Land College Student Government on March 4 to discuss ideas on future collaborations for events.

“There are a lot of similarities between our student government and theirs,” Gordon said. “Even though we’re different size colleges, we go through a lot of the same issues.”

Gordon said they are even looking to recruit some of the Student Government students from Lake Land College.

“A lot of Lake Land students do end up transferring over to Eastern, so it’ll also be a good opportunity if they are interested in coming here to talk with them more about our student government experience here and our experience as students here,” Gordon said.

Gordon and Speaker of the Senate Seth Yeakel will be presenting a budget report to the senators and explaining what was discussed when Gordon met with the apportionment board.

“There aren’t very many big changes, but the main thing you’ll see is we kept the same overall budget amount, so we’re not spending anymore or any less as the year before,” Gordon said. “But we did move around the money a little bit, so we’ll be talking about that with the senators.”

Gordon said the budget is not officially approved by the apportionment board yet but that is what they are planning on doing if it is approved.

A note on the Senate website encouraged students to attend senate meetings and introduce themselves to the Senate and to speak to the speaker of the senate about becoming a senator.
