Bieber said it best: ‘never say never’

Karena Ozier, Columnist

Ever since I was little, I started listing off all of the things I told myself that I would never do. I realize now that maybe Justin Bieber was right. Never say never.

One of the many things that I never thought I would do was join a sorority. I watched the movies and I thought that I learned my lesson. I thought that girls in sororities were selfish and rude, but it’s the complete opposite.

I stepped out of my comfort zone and joined a sorority. Since joining, I have been a part of many events to raise money for great causes and I have met some of the nicest people that Eastern has to offer. Going Greek has exposed me to leadership opportunities, friendship and more ways to get involved than I ever could have imagined.

Joining a sorority has helped me stay active, which is something that I was lacking during my freshman year. I felt like although I was involved in a lot of various clubs and groups on campus, I was not connected to anyone. Greek life has completely changed that for me.

As much work as I put into my chapter reflects how much I get out of it. For my need to be active, my chapter has fulfilled that part of my college experience tenfold.

The next thing I thought I would never do is get married before I graduate college. This is my favorite “never” because it’s one that came from another “never”. I am currently planning my wedding for the year before I graduate, and I couldn’t be happier.

The last “never” that I will share is one that I think every college student experiences. I thought that I would never be excited to go back to college after being home for the summer. This one caught me by surprise.

While I enjoyed my summer jobs, I also missed the schedule that being at college provides. I missed the people that I had grown close to and realized how different it is to go from having a roommate and being so close to someone to being in a room at home by yourself.

All of these things that I never thought I would do trace back to a life lesson that I was always told but never understood. That is, never say never. The popular Justin Bieber song stands true. You never know what life will throw your way until it happens. So, never say never.
