A 26-year-old man was shot in the abdomen early Sunday morning near 7th Street and Buchanan Avenue.

The victim was transported to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center and then flown to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.

During the initial investigation into the incident officers were made aware of an argument between unknown individuals prior to the shooting, according to a news release from the Charleston Police Department.

The suspect has not been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.

The CPD was assisted in responding to the shooting by the University Police Department, Coles County Sheriff’s Department and the Mattoon Police Department.
