The Charleston Police Department reported shots fired in the 2400 block of 8th Street just south of campus around 6:40 p.m. More information will be added as soon as it becomes available.

The initial alert was sent out throughout the campus community via Alert EIU.

Officers on the scene declined to comment; however, two officers were seen placing a man in handcuffs into the back of a University Police Department vehicle and driving away.

A dispatcher with the Coles-Moultrie County Emergency Communications Center said a press release will be available tomorrow.
