Police investigated multiple reports of shots fired Thursday afternoon in the 800 block of Lincoln Avenue.

However, Charleston Police Chief Bryan Baker said when they were out searching the area they did not find any evidence of empty shell casings or bullet holes.

“Somebody reported what they thought was shots fired, so we were out searching the area,” he said.

There was also no damage found on or around the surrounding buildings when they looked, Baker said.

Traffic in the area was blocked while police conducted the search.

The University Police Department and the Coles County Sheriff’s Office were part of the investigation.
