Douglas Hall wins boat race for second year in a row

The annual  boat races signal that the end of Residents on Campus Fest is quickly approaching. The residence halls spend almost a week every fall collecting boxes that they can use to build their boats.

Douglas Hall won the race for the second year in a row. Shawn Hammers, the president of Douglas Hall, was happy that they had “back to back wins … We were defending our title.”

The boats are a fun way for residents to bond and get to know each other. Sierra Headrick, a senior sociology major from McKinney Hall, said “We worked really hard and I’m looking forward to getting in.”

Annie Pettit, a senior communications major from Andrews Hall, said, “It’s fun to see something you worked on come together. We started Sunday night on our boat.”

Even non-residents were there rooting for their favorites to win.

Maddie Poulter, a junior kinesiology major and softball player, said, “We are here rooting for our teammates in the boat.”
