Charleston has two new business being built this summer and both plan being open come fall.

A & M Pizza Real Estate bought the old Domino’s pizza building at 667 Lincoln and will be operating the franchise that is set to open in August 2016.

According to Steve Pamperin, city planner for the city of Charleston, demolition of the old building took place on April 22.

Drake Homes is currently building the new Domino’s and plan to be done by September 1. They plan to build a new 1950 square foot brick and stone drive-thru facility that will offer seating for about 28 people.

“Charleston is a vibrant college and local community that should have already been serviced and was in the not too distant past. Reopening this store has been long overdue,” said Bill Drake, sales representative for Drake Homes.

To fill the business they plan to hire 30 full and part time employees with over half of them having delivery experience.

Art Hurteau and Marty Prather are the owners of A & M and are an award winning 35 year franchise. They own other stores in southwest Missouri and some in St Louis.

Sam Duvall, general manager, holds part of the ownership of the new building and will be operating the new store.

“Sam is the one of the best operators we could have teamed up with and will bring fantastic customer service and an eagerness to be involved in the Charleston community as well as the Eastern Illinois University community,” Hurteau said.

Just down the road from Domino’s, Charleston is also gaining a ALDI grocery store. LH Charleston LLC owns the new store which will be located at 2240 Shawnee Drive.

“We broke ground for the Charleston ALDI store two weeks ago, and we anticipate opening this fall,” said Heather Moore, Dwight division vice president for ALDI.
