Volleyball team ends 7-game losing streak

The Eastern volleyball team seven-game losing streak came to an end Friday as it defeated Tennessee Tech in straight sets, 3-0, in Lantz Arena.

Eastern controlled most of the first set earning a 25-14 win. Senior Kayla Nesbitt led the way for the Panthers hitting home six kills. Senior Abby Saalfrank added four.

The Panthers had a lot of strong play in the first set as they only trailed twice throughout the match.

Set two was a lot different as the Panthers won a close one with the Golden Eagles 26-24.

Once again the Panthers led most of the way but almost let a 23-18 lead slip away as the Golden Eagles scored six out of seven points to tie it at 24.

The Panthers got the next two points with the last one being off of an attack error by Cody Dodd of Tennessee Tech.

Nesbitt continued to lead the way in kills getting her total to 10 in the match.

Freshman Taylor Smith put her assist total at 14 after two sets. Senior Stephanie Wallace had the most digs on both sides with 12.

In the third set, the Panthers jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead but the Golden Eagles kept keeping the score close early on.

As the match went on the Panthers dominated most of the match not allowing the Golden Eagles to get very close.

Eastern won the set 25-15 to get the match win 3-0.

The Panthers start 1-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play and will look to make it 2-0 when they host Jacksonville State at 2 p.m tomorrow in Lantz Arena
