Two different musical performances will be featured at Jackson Avenue Coffee this week, including multi-instrument singer songwriter Bing Futch and folk rock musician Adam Klein.

Futch will be playing at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and Klein’s performance will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the JAC.

Futch is from Florida and said he has only driven through Illinois before this week. Futch said he specializes in playing many genres of music, such as Americana, blues and rock ‘n’ roll, and that brings a variety of people to the crowd at his performances.

“I have a different range of music,” Futch said. “I play traditional music that can bring in an older crowd. I play rock and pop too that can bring in a younger crowd.”

This range of music means Futch also plays a variety of instruments, including clarinet, piano, bagpipes and mountain dulcimer, which is a fretted instrument with three or four strings from the Appalachian region of the United States.

“I have a total of seven instruments that I play,” Futch said. “I first started playing music when I was in elementary school and I played the clarinet.”

Futch said he heard about performances at the JAC when someone reached out to him, and he decided to do one because he had started playing at coffee houses.

“I was already going to be in the area, and though it was a really cool place,” Futch said.

Klein is from Athens, Georgia and described his hometown as a “rich, musical hotbed.”

Since many people in his hometown played music, Klein said he was pulled into playing guitar late in his high school career.

“I took some piano lessons as a kid, but I wouldn’t say that I really ‘play’ the piano,” Klein said. “I could pick up a bass and play on it a bit, but I sometimes play the harmonica with a guitar.”

He said he wants his audience to have fun with his music, which he is looking forward to bringing to the JAC.

“I like bringing music to new people,” Klein said. “College towns have character.”
