Road construction to slow down traffic

Construction on state Route 16 will leave at least one lane open in each direction starting June 11.

Bob Utz, a district seven construction engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation, said the road construction is patchwork project and the scheduled completion date, as of Tuesday, is July 21.

However, completion could be up to July 27 as listed on the Illinois Department of Transportation website.

The almost $300,000 project, contracted by GM Sites Construction, Inc., will slow traffic down to one lane in at least one direction if not both directions on state Route 16.

The construction will be from state Route 130 to Douglas Drive.

“They will just be doing one lane at a time,” Utz said. “They may, depending on the size of their crew, do one lane in each direction at the same time.”

Drivers will be alerted to slow down and use caution when driving through the construction.
