Marketing presentation for business students

Deana Nuxoll from Think Create Do Marketing Group will address business students about adapting to the challenging job market in Lumpkin College today.

In her presentation, Nuxoll will discuss strategic marketing, website design and how social marketing is implemented. She will also talk about her day-to-day duties.

The presentation is hosted by the American Marketing Association, and will take place at 6:30 p.m. today in Lumpkin Auditorium.

David Muszynski, vice president for communications of Eastern’s AMA chapter, said Nuxoll will cover social marketing, a newer form of marketing.

“(Students) will take out of this presentation many skills and ideas about social marketing,” Muszynski said. “Social marketing is a huge chunk of marketing in businesses now. They will also learn how to market themselves in the job market today.”

Muszynski encourages students to attend because these are skills necessary for anyone trying to get a job these days.

“People should attend this program because they will become more knowledgeable in marketing, how to promote themselves out in the business world, and lastly, how to network with other peers,” Muszynski said.

Thomas Costello, faculty adviser for the Eastern chapter of AMA, said the organization tries to bring in at least four speakers from the field of marketing to campus to speak.

The AMA has many goals, including personal interaction between students, business faculty and marketing practitioners, as well as to gain real-world insight and information about careers related to marketing.

Costello said one of the ways to accomplish these goals is by bringing in a speaker to talk about their careers. The AMA is an international professional organization for marketing professionals, he added.

Costello said attendance at such events varies from 20 to 70 people based on interest level, but said students can learn a lot from these presentations.

“From each of these speakers, students can learn about what that speaker does for a living,” Costello said. “Students can see if this would be the kind of career they would be interested in doing. Of course, these events provide networking opportunities as well.”
