Kickin’ It proposal on agenda

The main aspect the student government plans to address during its weekly meeting is to vote on the proposal for the Kickin’ It In the Quad event that will take place Oct. 21.

“I think it’s a great idea. It helps to create more exposure and awareness of who student government is, what they do and who they are, so I think it’s a great way for them to interact with their constituents,” said Ceci Brinker, the student government adviser.

The proposal is for funding in regards to the food and refreshments for the event.

“I think that it’s going to pretty easily pass. It’s a great idea to relate with the students,” said Jennifer Prillaman, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Speaker of the Senate Jason Sandidge agreed.

“This is one of the steps that we want to take to be able to get out there and have direct contact with the students, and I think that it’s a good step in the right direction,” Sandidge said.

Prillaman said if senators voted no, it would probably relate to what to buy instead of the event itself.

“Some people might have a problem with the amount or types of food, like there was the discussion whether hot chocolate would be better than lemonade,” Prillaman said.

Prillaman plans to mention the Pizza with the Pres event she organized through the student government in her executive report.

“The first Pizza with the Pres was a success. There was a great turnout, so much that the pizza ran out after five minutes. President Perry was awesome, he went table to table and hung out with students in a very non-intimidating manner,” Prillaman said.

Eric Wilber, the former Executive Vice President of Student Affairs, will also be present at the student government meeting to present the Master Plan Presentation with Dan Rolando, the current Executive Vice President for Student Affairs.

The Master Plan Presentation is scheduled to take place during audience participation.

Two Registered Student Organizations are on the consent agenda to be approved by a student government voice vote.

Ekkin Kyo Kan Dojo and She Dances are the RSOs to be approved.

Brinker mentioned how she views the progress of the student government over the semester.

“I think that they are making significant progress. It’s also exciting because they have a lot of new senators that really want to help make a difference on this campus,” said Brinker. “There are also new projects in the works this semester, and they seem much more motivated to do more.”

The student government meeting will be in the Arcola-Tuscola Room at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.
