No fallout from stolen student info

Almost a month after computer equipment was stolen from the Student Life Office, there have been no reports of students’ credit history being tampered with, said Dan Nadler, vice president for Student Affairs.

A computer containing personal information, including the Social Security numbers of all the members of Greek Life was stolen Jan. 24 from the Student Life Office on the third floor of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.

Two hard drives, one desktop computer and a trash can were stolen.

Nadler said no one has reported any suspicious activity to his office.

Nadler said he is aware of students who have done credit checks, and they reported that the checks came back clean.

The student affairs office also set up an e-mail account to assist students. To date only one email has been received, which was an inquiry for information.

University Police Chief Adam Due said no problems have been reported.

He said he did not think it was taken for the purpose of identity theft. They could also have not been able to break the password, he said.

“It was pointless to take it if that was what they were after,” Due said.
