First night unites students

Fight Night can be well compared to a pep rally enforcing school spirit.

‘I really want Eastern to have more spirit,’ said student body President Sean Anderson.

A new thing this year for Eastern is Thursday spirit days, where students on campus are asked to bring out the school colors and Eastern T-shirts.

‘If you have an Eastern shirt, wear it,’ said Bill Kolacek, complex director for housing and dinning. ‘Say no to blue and orange.’

Spirit did show Sunday night as the student organizations, faculty, students, athletes, alumni and many others gathered around to bring in the first official day of school.

President Lou Hencken was great with chants as he introduced a few of his faculty and spoke to the crowd.

Hencken had the crowd yell if they were new or returning students while giving some advice to everyone – get involved.

‘There are a lot of activities at the university,’ he said. ‘Remember the reason you came here, go to class, get an education.’
