Faculty Senate to hear talk on resource distribution

The Faculty Senate will hear a discussion on the allocation and distribution of resources at Eastern at their meeting today.

A report on the resource allocation among the different vice presidents will be outlined by associate professor of Recreation Administration John Henry Pommier.

Pommier said the presentation will cover how equity is expressed on campus.

The senate will likely discuss a proposed computer privacy policy. A senate subcommittee was formed to weigh the issue.

“The basic trust of the draft I submitted that your email ought to be as private as U.S. mail,” said English professor John Kilgore, who submitted the proposed policy.

Kilgore said he does not know how the policy would affect email since the subcommittee has not yet met, but if the Faculty Senate finds favor in the policy, it will be taken as a statement of principle.

The Council on University Planning and Budget meeting will be Friday. The Dean of the Graduate School and Research Robert Augustine, chair of the CUPB, will be present to answer any questions the senate may have, said senate chair Ann Zahlan.

The Faculty Senate has discussed grade appeals in the past and heard presentations from Ronnie Deedrick, student vice president of academic affairs.

The Student Government was pushing for more student representation in grade appeals. The senate never made any statement on appeals and Student Government’s proposal will now be delivered to the Council on Academic Affairs.

The senate will also plan further for a faculty forum Jan. 28, 2003.

The Faculty Senate meets at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Booth Library Council Room.
