Feltt released from hospital Thursday

Bill Feltt, an English instructor, was released from Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind., yesterday after spending over a week there being treated for a brain hemorrhage and a skull fracture.

Dana Ringuette, chair of the English department, said Feltt sounded in better health during a phone conversation yesterday, but his mental well-being was harder to judge.

Feltt was hospitalized Aug. 27 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Memorial Hospital after he was attacked by six to eight males in their 20s on the southwest corner of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.

Feltt, 46, was released from Sarah Bush on Sept. 2 only to be readmitted into Good Samaritan a day later. He was treated for a sinus infection, a small brain hemorrhage and a skull fracture.

Adam Due, chief public safety officer at the University Police Department, said the police have no new lead in the case. However, they are still following up on a previous lead concerning a group of people on campus the night Feltt was attacked. The University Police have been sharing information with the Charleston Police Department and the Champaign Police Department, trying to locate and speak with members of the group.

A $2,500 reward has been offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of any of Feltt’s attackers. A benefit fund has also been established by an anonymous family friend to help Feltt pay mounting medical bills. Anyone who wishes to contribute to the fund can send a check or bring cash to First Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust at 500 W. Lincoln Ave. in Charleston.
