Faculty Senate to plan open forum

Current faculty concerns will be discussed at Tuesday’s Faculty Senate meeting in order to plan a open forum for the faculty.

Faculty Senate meets at 2 p.m. in Booth Library conference room.

Ann Zahlan, the Faculty Senate chair, sent out e-mails within the past week, polling the current faculty for any of their campus concerns.

Zahlan said there have been responses from many faculty members, but she is “not sure when (an open forum) will be, but it will be sometime in the near future.”

Faculty concerns range from safety to networking problems.

Zahlan hopes the forum will come by the end of the semester. The meeting date will be decided in one of the next few meetings.

The Faculty Senate will speak with Vice President for External Relations Jill Nilsen, on the electronic infrastucture problems Eastern has had lately. Zahlan said they would be discussing the possibilty for faculty fund raising or other ways to correct the problem.

As part of the Sept. 11 commemoration being held in Eastern’s South Quad Wednesday morning at 8:40 a.m., the Faculty Senate will be reading a portion of the names of 3,000 victims of the tragedy.

The reading of the names will begin at 9 a.m., and the Faculty Senate will be reading for the first hour of the ceremony. The Senate will go over the final plans of the commencement ceremony and decide who will read.

The Faculty Senate also will select a nominee for the Budget Director Screen Committee.

Three names will be chosen and one will be selected in order to serve on the Budget Director Screen Committee.

Interim President Lou Hencken was expected to attend the meeting to present enrollment statistics; however, he is now unable to attend.

No future date has yet been set for the enrollment announcements.
