Women’s issues abroad tobe discussed tonight

An International Tea Wednesday will honor Eastern’s female international students and provide a forum to discuss women’s issues in other countries.

The tea will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Charleston/Mattoon Room of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union. Sue Songer, International student advisor is one of the people behind this event.

Songer said this is the monthly International Tea event. She also said the sponsors are the International Women’s Group and the Women’s Advocacy Council.

“There will be six international women who will have a panel of questions,” Songer explained.

“They will represent six different places.”

Kenya, Albania, Malaysia, The People’s Republic of China, Japan and Baharian are the six places that will be represented.

“The panel of questions are going to deal with education, careers, health, marital issues, women issues and issues about their country,” Songer said.

Faculty and students can learn from these international women, Songer mentioned.

“They can learn about the things the women go through in their country,” she said.

“Not only the things we can learn from them, but some things they can learn from us.”

Songer said Wednesday’s participants are coming from far away places to share their experiences with us.

The tea is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
