Not all damage at hotel caused by fraternity

Eastern’s director of Greek Life said not all of the damage at the Best Western Worthington Inn early Sunday morning was caused by the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity; however, a general manager at the hotel refused to comment on the incident.

Robert Dudolski, Greek Life director, said Monday that in addition to the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, there was another group of individuals who are responsible for some of the damage.

A “couple of individuals,” who are members of the fraternity but have not yet been identified, are responsible for the damages, but the fraternity as a whole is taking responsiblity for the incident, he said.

David Kirsch, general manager of the hotel, refused to comment Monday about the incident.

Lt. Smith, Charleston Police Department, said Monday that no report was available about the arrests made at the Worthington Inn.

The officers who would have responded to the incident were unable to be reached by press time.

Attendees of a Sigma Phi Epsilon semiformal Saturday night were reported to have damaged a hotel water fountain, baby changing table, soap dispenser, toilet paper dispenser and stolen liquor bottles from the hotel bar, Pat Stuart, banquet manager, said Sunday evening.

In addition, a couple was found having sex in the restroom where most of the damages occurred, Stuart said.

The fraternity signed a contract with the hotel prior to the semiformal stipulating that guests are responsible for any damage done to property, Stuart said.
