Graduate returns to lecture on business

An Eastern School of Business graduate is returning this week to lecture current students about the economic world.

Brett Swallow, senior vice president and controller of Hickory Point Bank and Trust, a division of Archer Daniels Midland Co., will serve as an executive-in-residence for the School of Business on Wednesday and Thursday, March 20 and 21.

In addition to guest lecturing in several business classes, Swallow will give a presentation called “The Fed, Interest Rates and the Banking Industry: Where It’s All Headed” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Roberson Auditorium in Lumpkin Hall Room 2030.

Swallow graduated from Eastern in May 1990 with his bachelor’s degree in accounting. That same month he began his career at ADM as a staff auditor in the Internal Audit Department, where he spent more than nine years serving in various capacities.

During his tenure at ADM, the nation’s largest producer of ethanol, Swallow earned his certified Internal Auditor Designation.

“Any student can attend but particularly students interested in the banking industry or just business in general should come,” said Tim Mills, associate accounting professor.

“It will give them an idea of what they can expect in the future of the banking industry and also give them an idea of investing in the future,” he said.

Swallow is currently serving on the board of directors of the Central Illinois Chapter of the Institute of Internal

Auditors and will begin a term on the board of directors of the Macon County United Way this spring.
