UB welcoming students back with acoustic performance

Returning from Spring Break back to campus life can be quite stressful, so the University Board is welcoming student back with a free concert.

Sarah Lentz has been selected to perform in hopes of creating a relaxing atmosphere to welcome back the Eastern community.

Lentz, a folk ballad and acoustics performer, will be featured beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday at 7th Street Underground. The show is free to anyone with a Panther Card.

Monique Cook-Bey, assistant director of Student Life, was given the chance to see Lentz perform when the University Board attended the National Association Campus Activities Conference Showcase.

Cook-Bey and other UB and Student Life members were so impressed by Lentz’s musical talent they have brought her here to Eastern’s campus.

Lentz’s folk ballad acoustics performances consist of her vocal talent combined with keyboard playing.

“Her music is relaxing and laid back, if you like Sarah McLachlan, I definitely encourage attending,” Cook-Bey said.

While many people may not be particularly interested in folk ballad music Tuesday’s performance offers a great opportunity for attendees to enjoy a tranquil setting.

“It’s a type of show where you can relax with a cappuccino or even a book and just enjoy the music,” Cook-Bey said. “She is very good. I wish everyone on campus could attend.”

Cook-Bey expects an audience of 50 to 100 people. She recommends the performance to those who enjoy coffeehouse settings but encourages everyone to join the audience.

“Sarah Lentz is originally from New York City where she performed in many coffeehouse settings,” Cook-Bey said. She is currently traveling through the Midwest and has already played at various colleges.
