Efficiencey promoted by ALDI

Seeking efficiency by scrutinizing every expense is somewhat of a motto for the ALDI company, said speaker Waden Weinzirl, vice president of the Batavia division of the retailer.

More than 50 students and faculty listened intently to what ALDI has to offer in employment for graduating seniors and how the company serves its consumers.

Many students stayed at the end of the seminar to speak with Weinzirl about internship opportunities, turn in resumes and convey their excitement about the employment options with the company.

“Are you worth it?” Weinzirl asked about the $62,000 starting pay for district managers.

ALDI wants someone who is able to understand that leadership equals service to people, Weinzirl said.

Weinzirl stressed the importance of someone who has taken advantage of every opportunity available on their college campus. Weinzirl called these individuals “decision makers and action takers.”

Weinzirl said ALDI’s district managers can travel up to 1,000 miles per week in order to build a good relationship with each employee in his division.

“Leadership is support, ” he said.

Weinzirl said ALDI is unique not only in the treatment of their employees, but also in their level of loyal customers.

ALDI has several ways to “seek efficiency and scrutinize every expense” to sell the product at 30 to 50 percent less than other retailers.

Simplicity is achieved by selling out of the pallet, he said. Weinzirl said simplicity saves on labor, and in turn ALDI is able to turn that saving over to the consumer.

Weinzirl said ALDI focuses on what products sell the best such as sugar, milk, and other food items that are in great demand.

“We have no see-saw retails and prices don’t change very often,” Weinzirl said.

This helps customers to have faith in the store that no matter when they buy the product it will always be the same price, he said.

The company also offers a policy of no territorial pricing, Weinzirl said. This means that wherever the product is bought, the price will remain constant.

Weinzirl said ALDI prides itself in being a company of ethics with customers, suppliers and employees.

Every year ALDI has a mission statement to lower more retails and grow more, Weinzirl said.

Weinzirl said every year, the company strives to increase pay and benefits for employees.

When a person thinks about ALDI as a place of employment after college, he said he hopes a job seeker does not think of them as a retail store, but instead as “a great opportunity.”
